Washington, D.C. (January 2015) – Astrapi Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Brady as Executive Vice President. Mr. Brady has provided strategic consulting and project implementation to satellite-related technology companies for clients that include: Telesat, Airspan, ARSAT, Oi, RuralWeb, and SuperCanal, among others. While VP at Oak Communications-TV/Com-Hyundai, he helped transition the company from an Analog Cable –Satellite/PayTV hardware vendor to a new focus on digital development. Mark was a member of the Board of Directors of the Satellite Broadcasting & Communications Association while VP of consumer electronics company Uniden USA.
“Mark will be instrumental in Astrapi’s efforts to spur development of spiral-based modulation for communications networks, particularly in the satellite industry”, said Astrapi founder Dr. Jerrold Prothero. “Mark has demonstrated the ability to bring together critical partners in support of new technology development.”
Satellite communications systems operate in some of the most challenging radio environments. Maritime, VSAT, and backhaul systems must operate with significant power restrictions, rain fade, and interference challenges. Satellite users are demanding ever increasing speeds, resulting in the development of High Throughput Satellite (HTS) systems. While frequency reuse can increase capacity, there are limits to the spectral efficiency gains available using traditional techniques.
Mark commented, “Spiral-based modulation is well positioned to address the needs of those transmitting large amounts of content, in power constrained, noisy environments. I first learned of Astrapi at OilComm and immediately realized that spiral-based modulation could be a game-changer, much like the industry shift from analog to digital. One does not want to be on the wrong side of a disruptive change. Astrapi is the most novel innovation I have seen over the span of my career.”
Astrapi’s spiral modulation offers the promise of dramatic increases in spectral efficiency as demanded by the satellite market within the harsh conditions and power limitations commonly encountered in this industry.
ABOUT Astrapi Corporation
Astrapi is the pioneer of spiral-based signal modulation, which opens an unexplored area for innovation at the core of telecommunications. Based on a generalization of Euler’s formula, the foundational mathematics for telecom, Astrapi provides fundamentally new ways to design the symbol waveforms used to encode digital transmissions. By applying new mathematics to signal modulation, Astrapi is able to improve the trade-off between the four fundamental parameters in telecommunications: bandwidth, signal power, data throughput, and error rate. The resulting efficiency translates into higher spectral performance with more bits available at a lower cost.
